***BREAKING NEWS via Misfit Animal Rescue Inc.***
It is with a very heavy heart that I come to you today. After a recent visit to [Lake County] Animal Services I have learned some things that are very disturbing. I first noticed the empty kennels and was thrilled by what I was seeing. I questioned it along with a white bully that I was there to see. This white bully was put on the adoptable side on Friday and was available Saturday.
She was then PTS on Tuesday after the shelter was closed for 2 days. She got a day and a half. She was spayed and not sick. I was in shock. I went and requested the amount that were PTS after hearing a number of 17. I was provided 6. I did not feel good about this. I sent some crew members back the next day to get the records. It breaks my heart to tell you that 31 dogs were PTS plus 10 more for owner requested euthanasia and aggression. There were 60 cats. Over a hundred animals in one week and 2 of those days the shelter was closed. Lake County Animal Services focuses on ethanasia to control population. Lake County has over $330,000 dollars in a fund designed for the well being of the animals. They are not using it.
There is no advertisement and no organized way to get these animals into rescues. The shelter is very sick. I am not pointing my fingers at the staff that cares for these animals. They are sad too. This is above them. We need change. How can you have the money and do nothing? Is this what you want to support with your tax dollars? We are the people and we have the choice to stand up for our animals. They could have fixed them and given them away in a big adoption event. ADVERTISE, no one knows animal services is there. Is killing over a hundred animals in one week the answer?
We need change, we need people to step up and save them. The shelter is full and unless they start advertising NOW and contacting rescues a lot more animals will be killed. Media has been notified.
